[00:28]
Hello, I'm Diane Ducarme
[00:30]
I've helped over 500 people break free from migraine even after suffering for up to 60 years
[00:37]
My mission in life to bring this relief to a million people using a unique blend of Eastern medicine and Western science
[00:47]
In this episode you will learn why choosing rest
[00:50]
Especially during a season of social activity is not weakness but a vital act of strength and self-respect
[00:58]
How solitude can mirror winter in nature become a sacred time for deep healing clarity and
[01:05]
invisible growth That
[01:07]
honoring of your own rhythm
[01:09]
Even when it looks different from others allows you to reclaim energy joy and your true sense of self
[01:17]
If you're stuck indoors while everyone else is outside soaking up the Sun
[01:22]
it's easy to feel like the other one out the one who's missing all the fun and
[01:28]
Maybe you're managing a migraine. Maybe you're just not up for it
[01:32]
But either way watching the world light up while you stay in the dark can bring a mix of emotions
[01:38]
Can bring you sadness?
[01:40]
Frustration and even guilt it can feel like summer is happening, but it's happening without you
[01:46]
But today I want to flip that script. You're not weak. You're not boring
[01:51]
You're doing what your body needs and that's something to respect and not to resent
[01:56]
I want to talk about how to stay grounded how to reclaim joy and
[02:01]
How to remember that your summer story is just as valid even if it looks different
[02:08]
It helps first of all to remember why you made the choice of staying in
[02:13]
Light sound heat all of those summer delights can also be powerful triggers for your brain and body
[02:19]
The brightness the noise the constant shifts in temperature can tip your nervous system into overload
[02:27]
Especially if you're already living with a sensitive baseline, you're not hiding from life
[02:32]
You're protecting your capacity to enjoy it fully when the moment is right
[02:37]
Every time you choose calm over chaos
[02:40]
You're giving your brain a chance to reset to heal to build resilience
[02:45]
This isn't missing out. It's making room for the times when you can say yes without paying the price later
[02:54]
And here's the beautiful part
[02:56]
Joy doesn't only live outside
[02:58]
It can find you in the quiet in the shade in a cool room with a soft light and a moment of peace
[03:05]
This is your chance to turn inward not in isolation but in restoration
[03:11]
What if this pose is your power a time to read a time to breathe?
[03:17]
To create to dream a time to listen to your body like it's your wisest friend
[03:24]
The world still will be there when you're ready
[03:26]
and when you step back into it, you'll do so with more clarity more strength and
[03:33]
More of you intact and this instinct to retreat and reset isn't new it's ancient
[03:40]
across cultures and centuries wisdom traditions have honored the power of stillness in
[03:47]
Christianity the desert was a place of clarity and renewal in
[03:50]
Buddhism silence and solitude are gateways to insight in
[03:55]
Indonesia's teachings
[03:56]
Connection to nature often begins in quiet observation even heroes in myths like
[04:03]
Odysseus or the sages of old
[04:06]
Gains their strength not in the crowd but in exile in reflection or in pilgrimage
[04:12]
Time alone has long been a portal for transformation
[04:16]
So if you find yourself indoors apart from the noise of summer know this you're in sacred company
[04:23]
You're part of a lineage that understands healing begins in the pose
[04:29]
modern times offer many powerful examples of individuals who found strength purpose or
[04:34]
Transformation through solitude or withdrawal if you take Nelson Mandela for example he found deep in a clarity during his
[04:42]
Imprisonment his time in isolation became a crucible for patience
[04:47]
Leadership and vision
[04:49]
Frida Kahlo confined in her bed for months due to illness and injury turns pain into art
[04:55]
Her self-portraits reflect resilience born in solitude
[04:59]
Virginia Woolf though often retreating from society because of her migraines
[05:04]
Used her alone time to produce some of the most influential literary work of the 20th century
[05:10]
Malala Yousafzai after surviving an assassination attempt spent months in recovery and reflection
[05:17]
Emerging as a global voice for education and justice
[05:20]
Steve Jobs was known for his long solo walks stepping away from noise and distraction to spark creativity and make major decisions
[05:29]
Maya Angelou often retreated to hotel rooms with only a notebook typewriter and a Bible to write believing solitude
[05:38]
Each of them in their own way they turned quiet into power
[05:42]
So if you're in a season of stepping back know that you're not stepping out of life
[05:48]
You might just be stepping into your next becoming
[05:52]
So, how do you make space for that inner voice to come through it starts with intention?
[05:57]
Carving out a little corner of your world that says this is for me
[06:02]
It doesn't have to be perfect doesn't have to be big
[06:05]
Maybe it's a cozy chair by the window a journal left open on your table or a timer that gives you just ten minutes of
[06:13]
The day begins or when everyone's outside
[06:17]
Try lowering the lights
[06:19]
silencing the noise both outside and
[06:22]
Online and just breathe let your thoughts wander without needing to fix or judge them
[06:28]
sometimes your inner wisdom shows up not as a shout but as a whisper and
[06:34]
Whispers need silence to be heard
[06:37]
Protect that space like it's sacred because it is it's where your strength
[06:42]
regenerates where clarity grows and
[06:45]
When your next chapter begins, even if you don't see it yet last year
[06:51]
I made a decision that surprised a lot of people I chose not to have a summer
[06:56]
So while my husband and our whole family were in Europe basking in the warmth and joy of July
[07:03]
I stayed behind in New Zealand. I choose to keep my winter and for three weeks
[07:09]
I let silence in I worked quietly
[07:13]
Rested deeply and a lot space for something rare stillness with no pressure to perform or to please
[07:21]
My parents were not happy. They didn't understand
[07:24]
One even said you'll rest when you die, or I will rest when I die
[07:29]
I didn't quite like that sentence and that's not the kind of life that I want to live
[07:33]
I don't believe burnout is a badge of honor
[07:36]
I believe in rhythm in seasons and that winter I chose give me everything
[07:42]
When my husband and children returned I was vibrant full of life and ready for spring again
[07:48]
That pose wasn't luxury. It was essential for me, and I'm so grateful. My husband understood that
[07:54]
Sometimes honoring your own season is the bravest and wisest things you can do
[08:00]
Winter in nature is not a failure of growth. It's the preparation for it trees pull their energy inward
[08:08]
Letting go of their leaves so they can protect what matters most their roots
[08:14]
Animals slow down hibernate or migrate not because they're weak
[08:17]
But because they're wise enough to conserve energy when conditions are harsh
[08:22]
Beneath the surface life is quietly reorganizing
[08:26]
Seeds rest in the soil gathering strength for the bloom to come
[08:31]
Winter is the season of stillness. Yes, but also of restoration of deep unseen work
[08:37]
It's nature's way of saying pause now so you can flourish later. And maybe that's true for us, too
[08:44]
find the courage to say yes to you yes to your new beginnings and
[08:50]
Every small step you take move you closer to freedom. You are powerful
[08:55]
You are resilient and you are no longer alone
[08:58]
Keep rising migraine hero
