Hello, this is the Migraine Heroes podcast, a podcast where we share real stories from

[00:06]

real people suffering and battling with migraine disease.

[00:12]

In this podcast, we seek to provide support, hope, holistic health, advocacy, and inspiration

[00:19]

for those who suffer from migraine disease.

[00:23]

Thank you so much, Wendy, for taking the time to be with me today.

[00:27]

Well, it's my pleasure.

[00:28]

I'm humbled.

[00:30]

Thank you so, so much.

[00:31]

I massively look forward to having this conversation with you.

[00:35]

So how did migraines start in the first place in your life?

[00:39]

As I was looking back at my journey, I realized that they started probably when I was around

[00:44]

14 years old.

[00:45]

When menstruation started, I would get really massive, what my mom would say was a headache.

[00:51]

But now looking back, I realized it was a migraine because they just would last so long.

[00:55]

And she also had migraines, but called them a headache as well.

[00:59]

But now when I look, you know, I realized too, that's what she was struggling with.

[01:02]

So that's how it started.

[01:04]

And so how, you know, what would she do for you?

[01:07]

And you know, can you give us an example, maybe your first sort of attack?

[01:12]

So she would just tell me to take a warm bath, that would be her, and to lay down.

[01:17]

She never really talked about medication.

[01:20]

It wasn't until my sister had a friend over who was a doctor, and I had mentioned that

[01:27]

I was really struggling with what I thought was a headache, and it just wouldn't go away.

[01:31]

And he recommended Tylenol.

[01:33]

So that was the first time that medication was really presented to me to take.

[01:37]

And he told me to take extra strength and as much as I could at, you know, one setting

[01:41]

and then to take it again if it didn't go away.

[01:44]

And it did help some, not perfectly, but it did at least take the edge off.

[01:49]

And so you're going through your teenage years with that.

[01:52]

So do you carry it with you or that's not yet needed?

[01:57]

Not yet.

[01:58]

I was young and not educated, you know, as far as what, you know, on medication and things

[02:04]

like that.

[02:05]

So I think I just a lot of times suffered through it, just would go lay down and maybe

[02:09]

not go somewhere because I was feeling so sick.

[02:13]

Did you sometimes have to cancel plans or?

[02:15]

I don't remember just canceling specific plans, but I do remember, I do remember having

[02:21]

to lay down and take a nap and complaining that I just didn't feel well.

[02:27]

That's a recollection that I have.

[02:29]

And then life moves on and what happens?

[02:32]

So life moves on.

[02:33]

I'm in my 20s now and my, when I would get again, my menstruation, my headaches would

[02:40]

just get worse and worse.

[02:43]

To the point where I then had another friend recommend that I take a high dose of ibuprofen.

[02:50]

And so then that's, I started to do that.

[02:52]

I would just take a very high dose again, take the edge off, but would not completely

[02:58]

take the migraine away.

[03:00]

So I just struggled through, just suffered through and didn't really think there was

[03:04]

much I could do about it.

[03:05]

And so can you describe when you say take the edge off, what does it look like?

[03:10]

So for me, a lot of them are my, the migraines that I have are behind my eyes and it would

[03:16]

actually make my eyes swell.

[03:18]

And it would, so it would, it would take away some of that inflammation, I guess, behind

[03:23]

my eyes.

[03:24]

So then the migraine would be a little bit lessened by that.

[03:28]

Okay.

[03:29]

And then you still had sort of a drawing something in the background.

[03:32]

Did you feel clear in your mind or did you feel?

[03:34]

No, I felt I would, I had a lot of dizziness.

[03:38]

And then I would feel like brain fog, like when I'd want to reply to someone, it wouldn't

[03:45]

come quickly, you know, during that time.

[03:48]

And I just didn't realize that was part of it.

[03:50]

I just, again, had no knowledge of why I was feeling the way I was feeling.

[03:54]

I still wasn't diagnosed with migraines at that time.

[03:57]

Okay.

[03:58]

It was just considered that I had really bad headaches.

[04:02]

And did you, did you feel different to other people or did you not care that much or?

[04:08]

If I was to ask, my family did do remember me being sick a lot, but I don't think they

[04:16]

really realized that it was from migraines or anybody really realized it.

[04:23]

Because you were just bedridden a lot and so they would interpret that as sickness.

[04:27]

And just thought that I had really bad, what we would call periods, you know, they just

[04:31]

thought I had really bad ones.

[04:34]

And so they just, cause it was more during that time and that time of my life.

[04:38]

Yeah.

[04:39]

So we just considered I was just one of those women that had really rough periods.

[04:44]

Which by the way I mentioned passing, you should not have rough periods, right?

[04:48]

Like I think we're in a society.

[04:51]

Yeah.

[04:52]

They just think you should just accept it.

[04:53]

And that's just the way it is.

[04:55]

And that's why we're taught, you know, oh, you poor thing, you know, I'm sorry, you have

[04:59]

really rough times of the month, you know?

[05:02]

Yes, absolutely.

[05:03]

And so this is just a quick parenthesis if you're listening to us and this is you just,

[05:07]

you know, you don't have to accept it.

[05:09]

There's a way out of this, but it's not meant to be pinned like that.

[05:13]

And so you're bedridden a lot.

[05:16]

You take ibuprofen more and more to take the edge off.

[05:20]

How often would that be?

[05:21]

Do you have a sense at that time?

[05:23]

During menstruation, I would take the high dose of ibuprofen every day.

[05:27]

Okay.

[05:29]

Until the pain would start to go down and then I would stop taking that.

[05:33]

And then the rest of the month, I would feel fine.

[05:36]

It was just, I had a long cycle, so it could be like five to seven days that I would be

[05:42]

struggling at this time.

[05:45]

And did that mean at that stage, like you would be off of your normal activity?

[05:51]

Trying to think, I think I just pushed through, you know, I went to work, I just, you know,

[05:59]

I realized now you just, you just suffer, you know, you just, you just do what you need

[06:04]

to do.

[06:05]

And when I would come home from work, then I would lay down and get like a heating pad

[06:09]

or, you know, get something, take some of the pain away, you know, just thought it was

[06:13]

part of life and just pushed through.

[06:16]

And so, so at home, obviously you could be sort of yourself and have that moment of relaxation.

[06:22]

How did you do it at work?

[06:23]

Did you, did you let any of your colleagues know?

[06:26]

No.

[06:27]

I just, I was always taught to work hard, which is a good trait, but, but we were all,

[06:36]

all of us kids were taught to work hard.

[06:38]

And so when you're at work, you know, you just, you put your head down and got your

[06:41]

work done, you know, and so I just thought that's what I needed to do, push through.

[06:47]

There were times, I do remember a couple of times, one place that I worked, they actually

[06:52]

did have a restroom that had a couch.

[06:55]

And so during my lunch break, I would go lay down and a little bit of relief.

[07:00]

So I did get to do that at one of my jobs, but that was the only job that had something

[07:04]

like that.

[07:06]

And so, and then life continued to go on?

[07:09]

Yeah.

[07:10]

So life continues.

[07:11]

I just think this is just part of my life.

[07:13]

And it was after I had my children, I had twin boys and they just got the migraines

[07:22]

that I, I was still calling them headaches, had gotten worse and worse.

[07:27]

And I was back home visiting my family.

[07:29]

I live in Arizona and my family is in New Jersey.

[07:32]

I was back visiting in New Jersey and I happened to mention to my sister, I said, I've taken

[07:37]

Tylenol.

[07:38]

I've taken ibuprofen.

[07:39]

My headaches have gotten really bad and nothing helping.

[07:42]

And she said, well, I think you might have migraines.

[07:45]

When you go home, you should talk to your doctor.

[07:49]

So when I got home, I made an appointment and he, after talking to me, he said, yes,

[07:56]

you are struggling with migraines.

[07:58]

And then that started with a tryptan medication.

[08:01]

This would have been about in my late thirties.

[08:04]

And so that felt like you felt heard and maybe understood, at least have a name to?

[08:09]

I felt heard, but I didn't feel any empathy.

[08:14]

It was with the, not to put men down, but it was with a male doctor.

[08:18]

And it was just kind of like, I've heard this in the other podcast too.

[08:22]

Like you're a woman.

[08:23]

This is, you know, unfortunately this is what you struggle with.

[08:26]

But the good news is we have a medication we can get you that will, will help you.

[08:31]

So you walk away, you, it's funny.

[08:33]

I felt relieved that I had something to use, but I also felt a little bit like a failure

[08:37]

that I had to take something that was like that.

[08:42]

Yeah, that absolutely makes sense.

[08:44]

That absolutely does.

[08:46]

It's interesting.

[08:47]

You see that when I was discussing with Dr. Zhang, she said in the podcast we did together,

[08:50]

she said something fascinating.

[08:52]

She said in traditional Chinese medicine, in order to become a doctor, to be chosen

[08:55]

for that career path, that profession, you needed to have two major qualities.

[09:01]

One was intellect and so extreme literacy.

[09:03]

So you can go back and read really old texts.

[09:05]

The second thing you needed to have was a lot of empathy because emotions are also part

[09:11]

of health.

[09:13]

And so it's interesting because in our culture, it's completely out, it's pure intellect.

[09:18]

Yet nowadays we started to scratch the surface of actually emotions are also important and

[09:24]

understanding for them as part of their curriculum.

[09:26]

They also have psychology at the job because they're saying, you know what, if the person

[09:30]

struggles with something emotional, he has to be able to identify, address and solve

[09:35]

it.

[09:36]

Right.

[09:37]

You know, because otherwise they can't, you know, let go of their feelings.

[09:41]

And this is really important for their remission.

[09:43]

So it's interesting what you say about feeling sort of diagnosed, but then also expedited

[09:48]

with kind of, yeah, if you have a defect, you're one of those women, move on.

[09:52]

Yes.

[09:53]

And so then you start to take these medications and they help you.

[09:56]

So they helped me.

[09:57]

So I'm like, wow, this is good.

[09:59]

But I was, again, not told how to take the medication.

[10:02]

And I was told to take a whole pill, which is a hundred milligrams.

[10:07]

And I really should have only been taken half.

[10:09]

So the first time I took one, I felt my migraine went away, but I had some side effects where

[10:17]

I felt very dizzy.

[10:18]

I had to lay down.

[10:19]

I felt nauseous, sick, you know, just sick to my stomach.

[10:23]

And I had to sleep for a couple hours after I took it.

[10:25]

Again, it wasn't until I talked to my sister again that was familiar with it.

[10:29]

And she said, explained to me, oh, my goodness, you know, the doctor should have told you

[10:33]

to start with a half a pill.

[10:35]

And so then again, when I did that, I did still feel a little bit nauseous taking it

[10:40]

and just didn't feel good with it, but it took the migraine away, but I didn't have

[10:45]

to sleep for a couple hours.

[10:46]

I was now able to kind of work through it and it wasn't as bad, just taking half of

[10:51]

that medication.

[10:53]

And so at that stage of your life, after your twin boys, what is the frequency now of your

[10:58]

migraines?

[10:59]

So now, at that point, it started to be where I would get them before my menstruation, during

[11:07]

and after.

[11:09]

So you're looking like now, instead of having the five to seven days, it's more like 14

[11:15]

days.

[11:16]

And once I would get through that, then I would go back to at least having two good

[11:21]

weeks, but then it would start all over again.

[11:23]

Oh, wow.

[11:24]

Now, that's a whole new rhythm, especially when you have twin boys in the house, right?

[11:29]

And feeling very dizzy.

[11:31]

That's when I called them.

[11:32]

I said, I think maybe something's wrong.

[11:35]

I'm so dizzy when I stand up.

[11:37]

I feel like I was scared because I was at home with my boys.

[11:40]

Of course, my husband needed to work and I was at home and I was alone and I was afraid

[11:45]

that I was going to pass out, you know, and you just need to drink more water.

[11:50]

You know, they had empathy, but they just said, you know, we're sorry, you're struggling

[11:54]

with that.

[11:55]

The best thing we can tell you to do is to drink more water, you're dehydrated.

[11:59]

But now when I look back, I realized it wasn't that, it was these other things that were

[12:04]

going on in my body with my liver and the things that I've learned since talking to

[12:08]

you.

[12:09]

Oh, wow.

[12:10]

And so were you ever scared or did you ever like, I don't know, contemplate, okay, if

[12:14]

I'm dizzy or if I'm really unwell and something happens, what then?

[12:18]

Or did that not cross your mind?

[12:20]

It did cross my mind.

[12:21]

And I called my husband and he actually has been very empathetic.

[12:25]

He wished he could always help me more.

[12:27]

He's always been a great supporter.

[12:29]

So if I did feel that way, I would call him and just tell him and then he would wait for

[12:35]

me to maybe respond.

[12:36]

And if I didn't, then he would know that maybe something was wrong, as sad as that sounds,

[12:41]

that's kind of what we did until I would better, you know, I would check in with him.

[12:46]

And then once I felt better, I would call him back and say, I'm okay now during those

[12:51]

episodes.

[12:52]

I see.

[12:53]

I see.

[12:54]

So he was sort of on call, on standby.

[12:57]

Yeah.

[12:58]

And if you were not answering, then he would intervene.

[13:00]

And sometimes he did have to come home because the migraines were so massive.

[13:04]

Again, I didn't want to, you know, I knew he needed to work.

[13:07]

So it was hard.

[13:08]

I wouldn't ask him to come home unless it was so extreme that I could not care for the

[13:13]

twins and he would willingly, of course, always come home.

[13:17]

But then there's a guilt with that, you know, taking him from work.

[13:21]

Not that he ever made me feel that way.

[13:23]

It was just more coming from myself.

[13:26]

But that's how we did that.

[13:27]

And he was very empathetic and wished he could help me and would try to give me suggestions

[13:33]

on things to do and, you know, things like that.

[13:36]

But he didn't know what to do either, but just to be there, you know, when he could.

[13:40]

Yeah.

[13:41]

Look, I have found, you know, husbands overall, absolutely remarkable, you know, just with

[13:46]

so much empathy, so much willingness to help, so much feeling this heart and because they

[13:52]

also see the evolution of how much medication is required.

[13:56]

And yet the effect of sort of medication overuse headaches and rebound migraines that are coming

[14:02]

back.

[14:03]

Yeah.

[14:04]

Yes.

[14:05]

And that's what he was saying too.

[14:07]

He started to see that I was taking more and more medication.

[14:11]

So then we thought about going to a place for pain management, which we thought they

[14:17]

were going to help me with alternatives, but then they to give me more medication.

[14:23]

And then I got I got worse because they were giving me even more medication.

[14:27]

And he felt so bad because he was trying to help me.

[14:30]

And we both thought this was going to be an answer and it wasn't.

[14:34]

And I actually ended up in the ER because I could no longer fight the migraines with

[14:42]

medication because it was the, you know, it's having the rebound effect from that.

[14:47]

And so can you describe the experience in the ER and what happened before?

[14:51]

Yeah.

[14:52]

So I actually had COVID as well during this time.

[14:54]

So this was August 2023.

[14:57]

For the first time I had COVID that I know of.

[15:01]

And I was really, really sick.

[15:03]

And the headaches during that time were just awful.

[15:06]

And then I started feeling better, but the headaches were not going away.

[15:10]

And my medication was no longer working.

[15:14]

So when I took sumatriptan, Tylenol, ibuprofen, it didn't even take the edge off and it got

[15:20]

so bad.

[15:21]

Believe it or not, I still tried to go to church.

[15:24]

We go to church every Sunday and I was actually sitting in church and I just had such a pain

[15:31]

over my eye.

[15:32]

I didn't know how I was going to drive home.

[15:35]

My husband was actually at a golf event, so he wasn't with me.

[15:38]

And I was there with my son and I'm driving home and we usually we would go out to lunch

[15:43]

after church.

[15:44]

And I told him, I said, I'm so sorry, I just have to get us home.

[15:48]

And then when I got home, I just could not take it.

[15:51]

I felt like somebody was stabbing me in my head, just like stabbing.

[15:56]

It was just excruciating.

[15:57]

It was probably the worst one I ever had.

[16:00]

And I called my husband and he did not even think about it.

[16:04]

He rushed home and he said, we're going to the ER right now.

[16:09]

You cannot be in, this is not fair to you to be in this much pain.

[16:13]

That's how I ended up in the ER.

[16:15]

And so, and so what happened there?

[16:17]

Like did he give you more medication?

[16:19]

Did you put in the doctor?

[16:22]

So what happened is they talked to you and find out they were empathetic.

[16:28]

They were some good doctors and they gave, but then they gave me more medication, but

[16:36]

it allowed me to sleep and I was able to, yeah, I was able to calm down and they were

[16:45]

able to send me home.

[16:46]

But through that, they were the first ones to tell me, they gave me a list of foods.

[16:52]

They said, you really need to look at your triggers.

[16:55]

And no one had ever said that to me.

[16:56]

And I said, what do you mean by triggers?

[16:57]

And they started talking to me about foods that, like chocolate, wine, things with nitrates.

[17:08]

So just a few things.

[17:09]

And they just said, you may want to start looking at your triggers.

[17:13]

And so that's what started, I was just taken aback because this is an ER doctor telling

[17:18]

me and wondering why no other doctor ever told me.

[17:23]

So I'm like, wow, I'm like, okay, so that got my mind thinking.

[17:27]

And I really started to research, but I didn't know where to begin.

[17:31]

And so one weekend, can I talk about how I came to you then at this point?

[17:38]

So I was really struggling one weekend.

[17:41]

It was like one of those where I had one Friday night, Saturday night into Sunday where it

[17:46]

just wouldn't go away.

[17:47]

And I've already been to the ER, so now I'm going to cry.

[17:52]

So I'm feeling hopeless and scared, and I don't want to have to have my husband take

[17:57]

me to the ER again.

[18:00]

And I'm not understanding because I felt like I had done everything that was on that list

[18:05]

that they told me, and I'm still struggling.

[18:08]

And I had changed my diet.

[18:10]

But again, I don't know what I'm supposed to eat and when I'm not, I know a few things.

[18:14]

And so I just started praying, okay, I want to get through this.

[18:20]

It's okay, take your time.

[18:23]

And my prayer was very humble.

[18:26]

I said, Lord, you tell us that you heal us, and I've been asking you to heal me.

[18:34]

And so if this is how you believe I need to live my life, I trust you.

[18:40]

But if this is not what you have for me, then I pray that you will open doors for me and

[18:46]

give me wisdom on what I should do.

[18:49]

And I just got on my knees and I just laid that before the Lord.

[18:54]

And at this time, I was seeing a chiropractor, which was giving me a little bit of relief

[18:59]

because I was also having some neck pain.

[19:03]

And so it just got me to start Googling, and I started Googling alternatives to migraines

[19:10]

and chiropractor.

[19:12]

And somehow I found you.

[19:15]

When I was Googling, I found a podcast called My Neck's Your Health.

[19:21]

And I'm like, what is this?

[19:23]

And I started listening to it.

[19:25]

And I could not stop listening to your podcast because I felt for the first time, like, oh

[19:31]

my goodness, these women are being heard, you know, and they're not crazy.

[19:36]

And they're not, they're actually looking to be healed instead of, it's like a light

[19:41]

bulb went on, all these medications that I've been taking, all they're doing is a Band-Aid.

[19:47]

Like they were not going to ever help me long term.

[19:50]

They were just going to take my pain away.

[19:52]

And then I was going to start the whole process again.

[19:54]

And for the first time, I felt hope.

[19:58]

And I felt like God had sent me, you know, to your program.

[20:02]

And because I don't even, to be honest, I don't know how I found you when I was Googling

[20:06]

for that, I had to intervention because you're in New Zealand, you can't say it right, New Zealand.

[20:14]

And so I filled out your questionnaire and I'm feeling very vulnerable.

[20:20]

And I'm feeling like at this point, you know, I kind of give you the short version, but

[20:24]

I have tried so many medications.

[20:26]

I've tried eating correctly, I had the right exercises, tried getting sleep.

[20:31]

So I have tried so many things.

[20:32]

I'm now, you know, in my fifties.

[20:35]

So it's been a long journey.

[20:36]

And so I'm feeling vulnerable.

[20:38]

But something in me just said, Wendy, fill out the questionnaire.

[20:42]

And so I did.

[20:43]

And then you reached out and told me to make an appointment, a Zoom appointment.

[20:49]

My heart's pounding, like, are you crazy?

[20:51]

Like who are, what are you doing?

[20:54]

And so I make the appointment and it was very surreal.

[20:58]

My first meeting with you, I, again, I'm feeling vulnerable, you know, I'm like, it's

[21:05]

this for real?

[21:06]

Is this woman really hearing me?

[21:08]

And you did, that was the first time I, you told me the best thing you said, your migraines

[21:15]

are an alarm, letting you know that everything isn't right instead of the other way around.

[21:21]

Like you're not right.

[21:23]

So you're have, so that's why you're a woman.

[21:25]

So that's why you're having migraines, whereas your body's trying to talk to you.

[21:30]

And like, that was the first time a light bulb went on of like, wow, I don't have to

[21:35]

live like this.

[21:37]

There's something else going on and has been for years.

[21:41]

And it's just gotten worse.

[21:43]

And I just felt, I just felt at peace when I talked to you.

[21:47]

It was crazy because we had just met and I just felt connected.

[21:51]

And I can see how you connect with other women too, because you truly have a heart to help

[21:57]

us and I'm amazed at your heart.

[22:00]

I was telling somebody today about you and how, when you looked at your child and you're

[22:04]

like, what am I doing with my life?

[22:06]

I want to help people.

[22:08]

And that shines through.

[22:09]

I mean, that just shines through.

[22:11]

It means the world, Wendy, it means the world.

[22:14]

Everything you said makes me also very emotional.

[22:19]

With migraine disease, we only have each other to make a difference.

[22:23]

If you know of someone suffering from migraine attacks, share this podcast with them.

[22:30]

Maybe I want to tell you my part of the story, you know, in all of that time with you, since

[22:34]

I've known you.

[22:35]

I think when I, something I never share with people.

[22:42]

When I started, I thought of doing this, I had a lot of external power to move me to

[22:49]

do it.

[22:50]

People I had never met.

[22:51]

Like I was feeling a lot, a lot, a lot of energy of, you know, I think people, you know,

[22:58]

trying to help others.

[22:59]

I don't know.

[23:00]

It's a really bizarre feeling.

[23:02]

And so, you know, when we met, you know, a lot of, yeah, a lot of my team members, they

[23:08]

also believe in God and, and they also do their prayers.

[23:11]

And so I said, you know, maybe, maybe we should also sometimes pray, you know, for these women

[23:15]

who suffer so much and, you know, so they find a way.

[23:19]

And I remember you found me, you were one of the first ones.

[23:22]

So we started the Migraine Heroes podcast and I didn't know if those stories would interest

[23:26]

people.

[23:28]

I was obsessed with them.

[23:31]

I was on the receiving end of so many and I was like, oh my God, you know, initially

[23:34]

when I said I could help, I never expected, you know, so many, I mean, stories that were

[23:40]

completely surreal and so different to what you see on social media.

[23:45]

And I said, I don't know if it's going to interest anyone, but I'd like to, I like these

[23:49]

stories to be told because I, you know, I think it's just, it's not normal.

[23:52]

We leave women like that and we let them down so much.

[23:57]

And we suffer silent.

[23:58]

We do.

[23:59]

We suffer so silently.

[24:01]

So silently.

[24:02]

And so sometimes when I'm in my bed, I'm just going to have that moment of meditation where,

[24:08]

I don't know, it's a bit like I tune my brain on the pain frequency and I'm like, well,

[24:13]

I'm just going to try to send a bit of positive energy, you know, where it's possible, you

[24:19]

know, because it's just so hard.

[24:22]

So were you praying at the same time I was praying?

[24:24]

Yeah.

[24:26]

Absolutely.

[24:27]

Absolutely.

[24:28]

And I really thought, you know, it's just incredible how, you know, how people find

[24:33]

their way.

[24:34]

And so you told me and I'm like, what happened after you prayed?

[24:36]

And I think what you told me is you went on one of the podcasts on, on Spotify or on.

[24:42]

Yes.

[24:43]

And you tried to migraine.

[24:45]

Yes.

[24:46]

In fact, it was one that you were talking to someone else and then they referred me.

[24:50]

I remember now it wasn't even on my Nectar Health.

[24:53]

You were on someone else's podcast.

[24:56]

And then that, and then that led me to my Nectar Health because I know then I Googled

[25:01]

you.

[25:02]

Yeah.

[25:03]

Yeah.

[25:04]

And so, um, and so I remember we met and I also visibly remembered at the end of our call,

[25:07]

I said to you, um, I hope, I hope we get to make a podcast.

[25:11]

I really think so.

[25:12]

You know, because at that stage, you explain your life.

[25:15]

I understand, you know, from the 97 questions, like, what are your problems?

[25:18]

And I'm like, yeah.

[25:19]

I mean, unless something, you know, pops up, like, I don't see why not.

[25:24]

Like, you know, like, we're going to ace this.

[25:26]

It's just, you know, not a walk in the park, but it's, you know, we've done this over and

[25:30]

over again.

[25:31]

Let's do this for Wendy.

[25:32]

And so I was really, um, I was really, really happy and I thought it was a really strange

[25:38]

thing because, you know, when you do like what I do, you also, how do you reach out

[25:42]

to people?

[25:43]

People will give you all sorts of techniques, but I think players are really good at reaching

[25:47]

people.

[25:48]

They feel fine.

[25:49]

Yes.

[25:50]

You're humans.

[25:51]

Definitely.

[25:52]

Yeah.

[25:53]

It is power.

[25:54]

Power in prayer.

[25:55]

Yeah.

[25:56]

Yeah.

[25:57]

Yeah.

[25:58]

Sure.

[25:59]

And one thing we didn't touch about, which I loved, um, I told you this week that I mastered

[26:03]

the storms and one of my, you know, we didn't talk about triggers, but one of my major triggers

[26:09]

is when a storm would come in, I would dread it.

[26:12]

I would just be like happy that we're going to get the rain because I live in Arizona.

[26:15]

We need the rain.

[26:16]

You know, we're, we're in a drought.

[26:19]

So happy that we have the rain.

[26:20]

But then I knew for three days, I'm going to have a major migraine.

[26:24]

And this week we had storms three times and crazy storms, you know, that came in and I

[26:31]

actually got to enjoy them this week.

[26:34]

So that was also a really cool thing.

[26:36]

I think for me, that was the signal.

[26:38]

Then you know, he sent me the message and he said, I beat the massive storm, the three

[26:45]

day storm.

[26:46]

I'm like, yeah, you're podcast ready.

[26:47]

Let's go for it.

[26:48]

And it's so funny because you still like, you're nervous.

[26:51]

Like I was still nervous.

[26:52]

Like, I'm like, you're okay, Wendy, you're, you're okay.

[26:56]

You can enjoy the rain.

[26:57]

It's just so funny how, how you just get so used to accepting things and then just see

[27:01]

the positive.

[27:02]

It's just so humbling and I just thank, so thankful for God's mercy on me.

[27:07]

Yeah.

[27:08]

And you know, like we have this incredible tech team who works a lot, you know, and,

[27:15]

and they see the chat.

[27:16]

So we have inside the app, we have a chat where we chat, you know, on a very frequent

[27:20]

basis.

[27:21]

And, um, and so, and so when they saw that message, you know, I, you know, I shared it

[27:26]

with them.

[27:27]

I'm like, oh, look at that message.

[27:28]

Um, I mean, they just, they were so, so happy because it's, I think, I think, you know,

[27:33]

I, I, I, I pay people well, I think they do an amazing job, but they're not there for

[27:38]

that.

[27:39]

They're there for the impacts that they see, they do the difference that they see in the

[27:42]

life of one, because they see the trackers, et cetera, and they see, you know, the results

[27:45]

we're having.

[27:46]

Um, and so I, uh, I'm just, I'm trying to get back your texts that you sent me, but

[27:50]

I felt very emotional when you sent it.

[27:53]

Um, and you said something along the lines of, um, you know, I've, I've been, uh, praying

[27:58]

the Lord, you know, to have an answer, to have a, you know, a solution and I feel like

[28:03]

you're the answer to my prayers and I, I felt so moved.

[28:06]

Yeah.

[28:07]

I'm so glad.

[28:08]

You know what?

[28:09]

It's funny because I was nervous to tell you that because I didn't know how, you know,

[28:13]

you would feel, but I just felt like I had to, I'm like, what else?

[28:17]

Tell them, like, you guys have been just wonderful and I, and I would agree your team is awesome

[28:23]

because there are some days that I would get scared through the process when something

[28:28]

go away or, um, they were just so sweet and their response is, I understand why you're

[28:34]

a little bit nervous, but you're going to be okay.

[28:36]

You know, just like try this and, um, and then just having, just realizing that it's

[28:41]

going to take time and being, being supported, like it's just going to take time, but you're

[28:45]

going to see the good in that.

[28:47]

And, um, they just were, even when I may maybe could have been a little nicer, they were

[28:53]

always sweeter.

[28:54]

So sweet with their responses to, and I, when I say not nice, I, sometimes I would respond

[28:59]

out of fear because of my past.

[29:03]

And they were just so wonderful and it would just calm me, you know, it would just calm

[29:09]

me like, okay, this is okay.

[29:12]

And your body is going, you're going to, you and your body, you're going to learn how to

[29:16]

work through this with the wisdom the Lord has given us, you know?

[29:20]

So, um, and, um, and it's very true.

[29:24]

Like when the team were used to anxiety and we're also used to, because women have historically

[29:29]

taken so many medications, it can make them sometimes, you know, be a little bit more,

[29:36]

how would I say?

[29:37]

Like a little bit more anxious, but with a bit of a, you know, like, you know, quick

[29:41]

message and, you know, a bit of an, with an edge of the pain, that's just what you're

[29:49]

receiving.

[29:50]

It's the edge of the pain.

[29:51]

We're completely, uh, completely, um, understanding of that, extremely understanding of that.

[29:57]

I remember also one day you mentioned that, um, you had been to a family event and, um,

[30:04]

and that people in your family had commented on you losing weight.

[30:07]

Yes.

[30:08]

Yeah.

[30:09]

So what's so funny is when you, you know, part of your program, if it's okay that I

[30:15]

say it's about foods and teas and, and I, I really do like good food.

[30:21]

So for me, it was awesome.

[30:22]

Now I'm opened up to even more delicious food, but I, but they're nourishing food.

[30:28]

Well, through this, I lost a ton of weight without even trying because I really didn't.

[30:35]

I stopped working out because those would just led to more migraines.

[30:40]

So I just went back to walking and then started following your, you know, the foods that you

[30:44]

recommended and the teas.

[30:47]

Even my husband, he basically told me one day, okay, that's it.

[30:50]

You got to ask them to add some more fat in because you cannot lose, you cannot lose

[30:56]

any weight.

[30:57]

And I would show him my meals.

[30:59]

I mean, they were huge.

[31:01]

Like I eat three delicious meals a day and snacks and they're, you know, my plate is

[31:07]

full, but I guess it's all the right foods for me, you know?

[31:11]

And it just, I swear the food, I mean, the, the weight just melted off.

[31:15]

I mean, and I was not, and I didn't even care about that to be honest.

[31:20]

It was just a by-product of eating was right for me.

[31:25]

Yeah.

[31:26]

And, and so if you, if you're not saying us, you're just hearing us, Wendy is this absolutely

[31:32]

gorgeous woman.

[31:33]

Thank you.

[31:34]

Absolutely gorgeous.

[31:35]

Even after crying?

[31:36]

Absolutely.

[31:37]

Absolutely.

[31:38]

Even more so.

[31:39]

And so, and so sometimes I do have women saying, oh my God, you're going to add foods.

[31:45]

I'm, I'm, I'm really paying attention to my weight and like, don't worry.

[31:49]

Like losing weight is not removing food.

[31:53]

Losing weight is having your body operate and deal with food much better.

[31:59]

And so I could say that for sure.

[32:01]

Do not worry about that.

[32:03]

Yeah.

[32:04]

Yeah.

[32:05]

So like we're just adding in the body just deals with, with all kinds of foods a lot

[32:08]

better.

[32:09]

It's a lot more balanced is it has less cravings and less things like that.

[32:13]

Yeah.

[32:14]

I don't have cravings.

[32:15]

I'm, I'm not really hungry.

[32:17]

Like right before it's about time to eat, I start getting hungry and then I'm so satisfied

[32:22]

after my meal, I don't really think about food until my next meal, which that never

[32:26]

used to be the case.

[32:27]

What I was doing is I ate a lot of good food, but because my body wasn't in order, I still

[32:33]

did crave sugar.

[32:35]

So I would, you know, eat in between my healthy meals, I'm grabbing at sugar cause I'm tired.

[32:41]

I'm not feeling well.

[32:43]

Or I just before a migraine, I would have a sugar craving.

[32:47]

And so I don't, I don't, I don't have that anymore.

[32:51]

I know.

[32:52]

And so when I meet a woman, I'm like, it's a symptom and they're like, really?

[32:56]

I'm like, yeah, it's not a lack of will.

[32:58]

It's not like you just, you know, can't have the willpower to resist it.

[33:03]

It's physiological.

[33:04]

Yes.

[33:05]

And that amazed me more than anything, especially over the holidays.

[33:09]

Like I had a table full at one event that's full of delicious, wonderful looking treats.

[33:18]

And I had my fruit that I like that works for me.

[33:25]

And I did not even, I didn't even miss it.

[33:28]

I didn't even care because I would say that's also the awesome thing that I have now is

[33:36]

I look at food as nourishing my body and it's so awesome.

[33:41]

So when I sit down to my meal, I'm like, this is going to do good for me.

[33:45]

You know, thank you.

[33:46]

Thank you.

[33:47]

And when I'm thanking him for my food, it's so different because I really see what it

[33:51]

was meant to do and it was to nourish us truly, you know, and it's just so enjoyable.

[33:57]

Such a blessing.

[33:58]

Yeah.

[33:59]

Yeah.

[34:00]

Completely.

[34:01]

It's a very different way to look at life and look at your body and look at nature.

[34:05]

I think for me, one of the things that, you know, I find that, you know, I have high respect

[34:10]

for doctors.

[34:11]

I have a lot of doctors in my family.

[34:12]

This is essential.

[34:13]

It's also essential when you have migraines that the diagnostic be confirmed by a doctor

[34:18]

that you do an MRI if it's needed, that you follow the protocol.

[34:21]

Yes.

[34:22]

And I did have an MRI.

[34:23]

I forgot to mention that I did and they found nothing.

[34:27]

And it's important.

[34:28]

These things really matter.

[34:29]

But then to say that throughout biology and evolution, a fifth of migrants, a fifth of

[34:35]

women have a neurological disorder.

[34:38]

So a fifth of the workforce that produces other humans has a strategic defect, like

[34:45]

doesn't make any sense.

[34:48]

And that's what you feel like.

[34:49]

You feel like you're a defect, which is crazy, right?

[34:52]

So many of us are feeling that way.

[34:55]

Because it's actually the other way around.

[34:59]

You have a special power that allows you to be more intuitive with your food.

[35:05]

So you know what?

[35:06]

This suits me.

[35:07]

What if this doesn't?

[35:08]

This job suits me.

[35:09]

This doesn't.

[35:10]

This person feels quite toxic.

[35:12]

I'm going to go away from that relationship.

[35:13]

This job is too stressful for me.

[35:16]

I'm going to go away from it.

[35:18]

I feel tired.

[35:19]

I'm going to go lie down.

[35:20]

This has been too much light.

[35:21]

I'm going to close my eyes.

[35:22]

This is a tool for longevity.

[35:24]

It's a tool for fertility.

[35:25]

It's a tool for protection of society.

[35:28]

Yes.

[35:29]

And we're doing exactly the opposite.

[35:31]

I have, of course, over the years also taken care of other women who did not have migraines.

[35:37]

They came to me and said, I don't have migraines, but I have fertility issues.

[35:40]

I think you can help me.

[35:41]

Can you please do something for me?

[35:42]

Of course, it's...

[35:43]

See, I had fertility too, and I didn't mean to cut you off, but I realize now if I would

[35:49]

have gotten help back then, you know, that would have been, but I'm sorry, go ahead.

[35:56]

And so they're less intuitive than you.

[35:58]

They're completely feasible to help.

[35:59]

And by now, all of the wisdom that these women with migraines have shared benefit women who

[36:05]

don't have migraines because the ones with migraines, they were just that extra, yeah,

[36:10]

extra smart, extra intuitive, you know?

[36:12]

Yeah.

[36:13]

And so also, you know, I have to say, when you tell your entire story, I can picture

[36:18]

you when you're 14 and when you're 16 and when you're 20 and when you're 30, because

[36:24]

I've met you in different versions.

[36:27]

And oftentimes, also when I know people, you know, they are 14, they're like, oh gosh,

[36:32]

you know, you can so much easily get out of this entire life and have a whole different

[36:37]

life.

[36:38]

Yes.

[36:39]

I think we need to get the word out there so that women just have a different life and

[36:43]

the life that they are actually meant to have and that they're designed for.

[36:48]

Yes.

[36:49]

Amen.

[36:50]

I agree.

[36:51]

I agree.

[36:52]

And not being told, well, this is just what you have.

[36:55]

And it's not to say that our moms didn't mean what was best for us, but they didn't

[37:01]

know any different either, you know, but this is what you have to accept, you know, because

[37:06]

we just didn't know any better.

[37:08]

Completely.

[37:09]

Completely.

[37:10]

So maybe, you know, I'd love to do something with you that I've never done and this should

[37:15]

be a bit of a, you know, a relief for a few.

[37:18]

But I'd love to do, this is so much suffering, so for me, it's very vocational what I do.

[37:25]

I think I, you know, like it's, I see that as a, I don't know, a mission, like my contribution,

[37:30]

what I can contribute to the world.

[37:33]

And so I'd love to pray with you.

[37:35]

And if you can guide us into a prayer for all of those women who are in this very moment

[37:40]

and I define moment by this now when we recorded, but also each time a woman listens, you know,

[37:47]

if we can have that sort of eternal prayer that of those moment, those women, men and

[37:52]

children who are in pain at this moment.

[37:56]

Honored to.

[37:58]

Well, dear Heavenly Father, we come to you in Jesus name.

[38:02]

We thank you so much for people that you send into our lives that can help us, Lord, just

[38:08]

in our right time of need.

[38:10]

And Lord, I just pray for those that haven't found that yet.

[38:13]

I pray for the woman that's suffering silently, who doesn't, who's given up hope, doesn't

[38:17]

know what to do.

[38:18]

He feels like this is just what she has to accept.

[38:21]

I pray for the man that is also struggling and just feels like this is what he, what

[38:26]

he's supposed to deal with in life.

[38:28]

And for that child who's now just starting to have migraines, Lord, I just pray for each

[38:34]

soul.

[38:35]

I just pray that you would just touch them right where they're at and just open their

[38:39]

eyes and send guidance to them, Lord, that this isn't the life that you have for them.

[38:45]

And I just pray for people that can come alongside them, that can support them and teach them.

[38:52]

And I just pray that programs like My Nectar Health will become more available to those

[38:58]

around the world, like it became available to me.

[39:01]

I'm just so humbled that you would send me to someone across the country.

[39:07]

And it's just amazing what your power can do, Father.

[39:10]

And we just thank you for that.

[39:11]

Thank you for having mercy on me and so many other souls out there that you have helped

[39:16]

through this program and through other holistic programs, Lord.

[39:20]

We're just so thankful for that.

[39:22]

Thank you for the nourishment of your food that was made perfect and how you can give

[39:27]

us wisdom and what's right for us, each individual person, Lord, through the guidance of those

[39:33]

that you have given true wisdom to, Father.

[39:37]

I just pray for anyone that's just suffering right now that felt the way I felt that night,

[39:42]

Lord, just totally hopeless.

[39:44]

I just pray that you just show mercy on them.

[39:48]

And I love that verse in Psalm 32, Oh, Lord, my God, I cried to you for help and you healed

[39:57]

me.

[39:58]

I just pray that right now in the name of Jesus, Father, thank you for Diane and her

[40:02]

team that have been vulnerable and who have reached out and have taken this challenge.

[40:10]

I can't even imagine all the things that they deal with, Lord.

[40:13]

I just thank you for their hearts and how they truly care about people.

[40:18]

I see that in each text and each conversation, and I just thank you for each one of them.

[40:24]

I just pray that you bless them for the work that they're doing, that you protect them

[40:27]

and keep them safe.

[40:28]

And I just pray that more people will find them, Lord.

[40:32]

And we just thank you for the wisdom that you've given them and thank you for the healing

[40:35]

that you brought to so many of us.

[40:37]

And may you continue to guide and lead us and direct us in our life's paths, Lord.

[40:42]

And may we be able to help someone and come alongside them as well, Father, in your name

[40:47]

we pray.

[40:48]

Amen.

[40:50]

Thank you so much, Wendy.

[40:53]

And there's two things you said in your prayer that, but one in particular that you touched

[40:57]

upon is, can it reach a lot of us?

[41:00]

And I think what I'm trying to do at this stage, you know, and the big vision or the

[41:05]

dream I have is, how do you reconnect the human with nature more through women who suffer

[41:12]

from migraines and make that really accessible and possible?

[41:16]

And so sometimes I'm in touch with a really good friend of mine who works at Google and

[41:20]

I'm, you know, hoping that in the long run, you know, someone with a lot more, a lot more

[41:25]

power than me can carry that to make it really, really large and accessible.

[41:30]

You know, my dream is it's in your pocket, it's, it's, you know, it's free of charge

[41:35]

and it does its thing.

[41:37]

And if you need, if you need a human, because things are really tough, there's a galaxy

[41:41]

of amazing people with incredible emotional quotient and incredible empathy that are here

[41:48]

to help you grieve and all of these things that need to happen.

[41:52]

So yeah, this is a part of my dream and I'm willing to be patient.

[41:56]

I mean, the right human.

[41:59]

Yes.

[42:00]

I think you have done a great job with that.

[42:02]

I really do.

[42:03]

I admire you and just, yeah, everything that you've done, it's amazing.

[42:08]

Thank you so much.

[42:09]

And I do remember one, one instances at the end of the conversation, you said to me in

[42:13]

the first instance we met, she's like, I can't believe I'm going to pay someone in New Zealand.

[42:17]

It's so weird.

[42:18]

I felt so vulnerable.

[42:19]

You know, that's all I have left.

[42:20]

Go on LinkedIn and on LinkedIn, you will find me.

[42:21]

I said at the Harvard Business School, I promise you, if I had a criminal record, they would

[42:22]

have never let me.

[42:23]

And that was helpful.

[42:24]

And I did that.

[42:25]

I connected with you and I'm like, okay, she's looking for me.

[42:26]

And I'm like, okay, she's looking for me.

[42:27]

And I'm like, okay, she's looking for me.

[42:28]

And I'm like, okay, she's looking for me.

[42:29]

And I'm like, okay, she's looking for me.

[42:30]

But those people, their obligations was to make more money.

[42:53]

And my desire was to help more people.

[42:56]

And those things can very quickly come in conflict.

[43:00]

And so I decided to chart my own course and go on my own and do that with my own savings.

[43:06]

So that's what you see.

[43:07]

The reason that all of that work is expensive, especially when you have an internal chat

[43:11]

with real humans in an app that is on the App Store.

[43:14]

You would never do that if you were just trying to optimize for income.

[43:19]

And it's really a work of love.

[43:23]

And I think my kids really see that.

[43:25]

And my husband, he's completely behind me.

[43:27]

He says, let's transform lives.

[43:29]

And I try to do well so you can do good.

[43:32]

Oh my gosh.

[43:34]

What a wonderful, what a wonderful family.

[43:36]

That's wonderful.

[43:37]

Yeah.

[43:38]

God bless you.

[43:39]

Thank you so much, Wendy.

[43:40]

Thank you.

[43:41]

And your team.

[43:42]

Give them all my love.

[43:43]

And I'm so thankful.

[43:44]

I will.

[43:45]

They will all listen to your podcast.

[43:46]

Okay.

[43:47]

Sounds good.

[43:48]

Thank you so much.

[43:49]

Thank you.

[43:50]

Thank you, Wendy.

[43:51]

All right.
