[00:00]
Hello everyone, welcome back to Just One Thing.
[00:03]
I'm your host, Kat Bodden,
[00:05]
and today's guest is Diane Ducarme,
[00:07]
the founder and CEO of Migraine Heroes.
[00:10]
Hi Diane, I'm so happy to have you with me today.
[00:12]
Thank you for joining.
[00:14]
Thank you so much for having me.
[00:16]
Please tell our listeners how you work with clients.
[00:20]
So I have a Migraine Heroes app,
[00:24]
and every single day across the globe,
[00:26]
I help people who suffer from migraine disease
[00:29]
for anywhere between five years of their life
[00:31]
all the way to 60 years of their life.
[00:34]
Struggling with pain, it can be trembling sensations,
[00:39]
dizziness, vertigo, losing their eyesight,
[00:42]
seeing dots and prisms in their vision,
[00:46]
having palpitations, a lot of night sweats,
[00:51]
all sorts of sensations in addition to the migraine
[00:54]
and the migraine attack and the migraine pain.
[00:56]
And by adding foods to their diet,
[01:00]
getting them back to a happy gut-brain axis,
[01:03]
a happy vagus nerve, and in no more pain,
[01:06]
which to them feels completely groundbreaking,
[01:10]
following which we have engagements, we have promotions,
[01:13]
and we have very sort of unusual course of life
[01:16]
that happens, and that made me so happy.
[01:19]
Oh, wonderful, I love it.
[01:21]
Okay, so if you could inspire all of your clients
[01:24]
to do just one thing every day to promote optimal health,
[01:28]
tell me what your one thing would be.
[01:31]
It's to follow your intuition,
[01:33]
and that is valid for my customers
[01:35]
and for those who are listening and are not customers.
[01:39]
When you suffer from migraine disease,
[01:43]
really follow your intuition.
[01:45]
It can be the same way you'd think,
[01:47]
someone advising me to drink more water is a stupid advice.
[01:50]
In the same way, challenge,
[01:52]
living a life of medication
[01:54]
and taking medication every single day
[01:56]
and cocktail of medications and going to the emergency room
[01:59]
when I lose my eyesight, does that make sense?
[02:03]
And am I born that way?
[02:05]
Yes, I am born with a genetic predisposition for migraine,
[02:08]
but is that not a fire alarm away from my body
[02:12]
to communicate to me something?
[02:14]
And so using your intuition to keep the hope in your mind
[02:19]
that this is a temporary situation,
[02:22]
that there is a solution out there,
[02:23]
that it is feasible to heal and to get better.
[02:28]
And using that intuition to see
[02:30]
what else in my body is going on?
[02:32]
What else is my body trying to tell me
[02:33]
along my gut-brain axis, what else is going on?
[02:36]
Are these migraines always occurring around my menstruation,
[02:40]
before my menstruation, for example,
[02:41]
or during, and what might be happening there?
[02:45]
Or is stress a trigger, wine a trigger,
[02:50]
cheese, chocolate a trigger, and should I pose that?
[02:52]
Is this contraception really made for me?
[02:54]
It feels my migraine increase,
[02:56]
and even though I went to see my gynecologist
[02:58]
and they think it's impossible that it's causing me migraine,
[03:01]
my intuition is that it does.
[03:04]
Well, then follow your intuition.
[03:09]
Oh, I absolutely love that.
[03:11]
And that's true for so many symptoms, not just migraines.
[03:15]
You know, our bodies are so wise and so amazing.
[03:19]
When we have symptoms,
[03:19]
whether that's headache or pain or digestive issues,
[03:22]
you know, it's our body trying to communicate to us
[03:25]
that something's wrong.
[03:26]
And unfortunately, you know,
[03:27]
we both know the conventional system
[03:29]
is just really set up to suppress these symptoms.
[03:32]
We take an antacid, we take pain-relieving medication,
[03:36]
we take antihypertensives that just really work
[03:40]
on band-aiding the symptom and not getting down
[03:42]
and addressing that root cause.
[03:43]
And so I love what you say in that following this intuition,
[03:47]
if we can really tune into and listen to our bodies,
[03:51]
we can really help figure out what that root cause is.
[03:55]
And sometimes along the way, things got complicated,
[03:58]
but indeed you have to have the deep, deep faith
[04:01]
that your body's completely logical.
[04:03]
And even though you might not understand
[04:05]
why these symptoms occur one after the other,
[04:08]
why are you bloated all the time?
[04:09]
Why do you have so many blood clots in your menstruation?
[04:11]
Why is your menstruation turning darker and is now black?
[04:16]
Why do you have cysts that come back on your ovaries?
[04:19]
Why do you not digest well?
[04:21]
And meanwhile, all the time you have migraine,
[04:24]
start to put the two and two together,
[04:26]
start to observe and start to see
[04:29]
how can I get out of that situation?
[04:32]
And the body is beautiful like that and incredibly logical.
[04:36]
And it really, you know,
[04:38]
kind of emphasizes the importance of symptom tracking
[04:40]
because when we're sort of lost in the storm
[04:42]
and feeling all this pain and discomfort and nausea,
[04:46]
it can be hard to realize, oh yeah, okay,
[04:48]
you know, maybe I'm getting a headache, you know,
[04:49]
the week before I get my period or something.
[04:51]
And that's where symptom trackers
[04:53]
and types of fitness trackers can really help us,
[04:56]
you know, analyze that data.
[04:57]
And you have that in the Migraine Heroes app, right?
[05:02]
So really a migraine hero is, you know,
[05:04]
a person that takes in charge of life
[05:07]
and decides for themselves.
[05:09]
And so there's a free plan where you can just track
[05:13]
and it's really important to track
[05:15]
all of these symptoms in parallel.
[05:16]
Even, for example, your bowel movements,
[05:18]
are they very dry?
[05:19]
Are they very loose?
[05:20]
And that's gonna change how your gut brain axis
[05:24]
and your vagus nerve is set up.
[05:26]
And so tracking is incredibly important
[05:28]
because it allows you to make connections.
[05:30]
However, the female body is complicated
[05:35]
to overlay the cycle.
[05:37]
You might say, hmm, you know,
[05:39]
I intuitively feel wine is a trigger for me,
[05:42]
but the other day I had a glass of wine and it was fine.
[05:45]
Whereas a week ago I did have wine and it was a disaster.
[05:50]
And so you can really, truly,
[05:53]
when you start to map the cycle,
[05:54]
understand what on that day did your body have to prioritize
[05:58]
and how did it prioritize?
[06:00]
And this is where if you look at the data in a blank way,
[06:02]
you might not see these patterns and appreciate them,
[06:06]
but they're really drumming in the background.
[06:08]
And so that's what we really specialize into.
[06:10]
I also, it really strikes me how
[06:12]
on the Migraine Heroes podcast,
[06:13]
we have people testifying and say,
[06:15]
look, I went to see every single specialist.
[06:17]
I went to see everyone who wrote any book
[06:20]
and they were not able to help me.
[06:22]
And in the end, she was different
[06:24]
and her approach was completely different.
[06:26]
And I added foods in my life and oh my God,
[06:28]
I just feel so, so much better.
[06:30]
For example, a woman saying I have liquids inside my ear.
[06:34]
I can feel it, but I go to every ENT
[06:36]
and they tell me there is nothing in your ear.
[06:39]
I had a woman saying I have like masses inside my face
[06:43]
on the left side and I'm trying to describe it to doctors,
[06:45]
but with an MRI, we can't see anything.
[06:48]
And how to truly for us,
[06:51]
listen to the intuition of these people
[06:53]
because they give us the answer where the problem is.
[06:57]
So it's not just for you, it's for us together
[07:00]
then we're able to guide you and say,
[07:02]
oh, it's quite simple, this is how you correct it.
[07:04]
Thank you so much for sharing so much depth of insights.
[07:07]
This is exactly what it is.
[07:09]
And I think maybe we should be in the West as doctors,
[07:15]
like maybe a bit more modest.
[07:17]
We've been on the moon in 1969.
[07:20]
That's a long time ago, half a century ago.
[07:23]
And yet we have to apologize to some women and say,
[07:25]
I am sorry that I can't decrypt these very common things
[07:29]
that you're experiencing.
[07:31]
We're running a bit behind
[07:32]
and we're doing our best to come together.
[07:36]
Thank you for saying that.
[07:38]
