You eat well and you do everything right, yet your energy crashes and migraines flare.

[00:08]

What if it's not you, but the hidden chemistry in your food?

[00:14]

Migraine Heroes is a podcast for chronic migraine sufferers who've seen countless doctors with

[00:20]

no results.

[00:22]

Learn how to reduce your migraine attacks without endless medications or constant sacrifices.

[00:28]

Hello, I'm Diane Ducarme.

[00:30]

I've helped over 500 people break free from migraine, even after suffering for up to 60

[00:36]

years.

[00:37]

My mission in life?

[00:38]

To bring this relief to a million people, using a unique blend of Eastern medicine and

[00:43]

Western science.

[00:48]

In this episode, you will learn how common additives and preservatives can disrupt hormonal

[00:52]

balance and increase inflammation, why your endocrine system is far more sensitive than

[00:58]

most labels admit, and how both Western science and Eastern medicine help you detox from the

[01:04]

invisible noise of modern food.

[01:07]

Stay with me until the end, because once you understand how additives speak your hormone

[01:11]

language, you'll never look at ingredients the same way again.

[01:17]

Let's start with the basics.

[01:18]

Your hormones are your body's messengers, tiny molecules that keep everything in sync.

[01:24]

Mood, energy, metabolism, fertility, even sleep.

[01:28]

So they're going to communicate quietly and precisely.

[01:33]

But modern food chemistry speaks louder.

[01:36]

Enter endocrine disruptors, substances that mimic or block hormones, confusing your body's

[01:42]

internal signals.

[01:43]

They don't just arrive in dramatic doses, they slip in daily in micrograms, one over

[01:50]

the years.

[01:51]

Think of artificial sweeteners, flavor enhancers, preservatives, and plastic packaging.

[01:57]

Bisphenol A, BPA, phtalates, parabens, MSG, and aspartame.

[02:03]

Each one interacts with your endocrine system in subtle ways, binding to oestrogen receptors,

[02:09]

altering thyroid function, or interfering with cortisol and insulin balance.

[02:14]

A 2022 review in Environmental Health Perspectives showed that chronic low-dose exposure to endocrine

[02:20]

disruptors was linked to altered oestrogen and testosterone signaling, increased risk

[02:25]

of infertility, and mood instability.

[02:29]

And these aren't isolated chemicals, they create a cumulative effect, layering stress

[02:33]

on systems that were never meant to multitask at this level.

[02:37]

And here's where it ties to the brain.

[02:40]

Your hormones and neurotransmitters share receptors.

[02:43]

When additives interfere with one, the other feels it.

[02:47]

That's why brain fog, anxiety, fatigue, or even migraine can arise from something as

[02:52]

innocent as daily artificial flavoring.

[02:56]

This isn't fear-mongering, it's physiology.

[02:59]

Your body evolved to communicate through nature's language.

[03:03]

Additives speak a dialect it doesn't quite understand.

[03:06]

The solution isn't purity or paranoia, it's awareness.

[03:10]

Every label you read, every ingredient you simplify, every fresh meal you choose brings

[03:15]

the noise down a little more.

[03:18]

And in that quiet, your hormones can finally be heard again.

[03:22]

Now, I don't know about you, but I'm 42 years old, and I can see that my digestive

[03:27]

system has far less tolerance to all these kinds of things.

[03:31]

In my neighborhood in Oakland, New Zealand, I know the restaurants that cheat and those

[03:35]

who don't.

[03:36]

And I'm becoming more and more faithful to those who work with natural ingredients

[03:41]

and do not cut corners.

[03:42]

I make an effort in my day-to-day, and I appreciate people who do too.

[03:47]

In traditional Chinese medicine, the conversation about additives isn't about chemicals, it's

[03:51]

about the energy confusion.

[03:53]

When what we eat no longer comes from the earth in its natural form, the body struggles

[03:58]

to recognize it.

[03:59]

The result?

[04:00]

The absorption in qi, the life flow that connects digestion, hormones, and mind.

[04:06]

Modern foods, filled with synthetic ingredients and excessive flavor, overstimulates the senses

[04:12]

while undernourishing the body.

[04:14]

It's like eating noise, energy that excites but doesn't sustain.

[04:19]

Over time, that artificial stimulation dries out the yin, your body's cooling, stabilizing

[04:24]

essence, and steers internal heat.

[04:27]

You might feel restless, wired after meals, or sluggish the next day.

[04:32]

The body can't find its rhythm because what it's receiving isn't real nourishment, it's

[04:36]

imitation.

[04:37]

The remedy is not restriction, it's recognition.

[04:41]

Choosing foods that your body can identify, whole grains, vegetables, simple proteins,

[04:46]

teas, made from real leaves instead of cutters and powders, eating slowly, noticing tastes

[04:52]

without chasing stimulation, and giving thanks before eating all signal to the nervous system

[04:57]

that this moment is safe, that the food is real, and that the body can relax.

[05:04]

From this lens, cleansing isn't about extremes, it's about returning to clarity.

[05:10]

When your meals are calm, your hormones flow.

[05:13]

When your food is real, your mind becomes quiet again.

[05:18]

So if your hormones feel unpredictable, if energy, mood, or focus keep slipping without

[05:23]

reason, it might not be your willpower, it might be the quiet chemistry around you.

[05:28]

You don't need to be perfect, just aware.

[05:31]

Each time you choose simplicity over noise, you're rebuilding the conversation between

[05:36]

your body and your food.

[05:38]

And I'll give you a simple hack I personally use.

[05:40]

You know, sometimes you feel good and it's tempting to just think, once again, that this

[05:45]

time, this or that naughty food will not get at you.

[05:50]

So what I do, and you can do in your environment, is I pause, and I pretend to have eaten what

[05:56]

you have been offered.

[05:58]

And now I imagine my sensations, the discomfort, the pain that it's bringing me.

[06:03]

And usually, that's enough for me to deter, to say no politely, and potentially eat something

[06:09]

at home instead.

[06:10]

I'm not trying to deprive myself of good food, but I'm having the courage to delay if it

[06:15]

doesn't suit.

[06:16]

Because your hormones don't need control, they need clarity, and in a world designed

[06:21]

to confuse them, clarity is key.

[06:25]

And remember, every small step you take moves you closer to freedom.

[06:30]

You are powerful, you are resilient, and you're no longer alone.

[06:36]

Keep rising, migraine hero.
